Types of Hotel Rooms

  • Single: A room assigned to one person. May have one or more beds.
  • Twin/Double: A room assigned to two people. May have one or more beds.
  • Triple: A room assigned to three people. May have two or more beds.
  • Quad: A room assigned to four people. May have two or more beds.
  • Double-double: A room with two double (or perhaps queen) beds. May be occupied by one or more people.
  • Hollywood Twin: A room that accommodate two persons in two twin beds joined together by a common headboard. The room size or area of Hollywood Twin Rooms are generally between 32 m² to 40 m².
  • Murphy: A room that is fitted with a sofa bed (i.e. a bed that folds out of a wall or closet) which can be transformed from a bedroom in the night time to a living room in daytime.
  • Adjacent- Rooms close to each other, perhaps across the hall.
  • Adjoining: Rooms with a common wall, but no connecting door.
  • Connecting: Rooms with individual entrance doors from the outside and a connecting door between. Guests can move between rooms without going through the hallway.
  • King: A room with a king-sized bed. May be occupied by one or more people.
  • Queen: A room with a queen-sized bed. May be occupied by one or more people.
  • Studio: A room with a studio bed – a couch that can be converted into a bed. May also have an additional bed.
  • President Suite: This is the most expensive room provided by a hotel. Usually, only one president suite is available in one single hotel property. A president suite always has one or more bedrooms and a living space with a strong emphasis on grand in-room decoration, high-quality amenities and supplies, and tailor-made services (e.g. personal butler during the stay). The room size or area of Presidential Suites are generally between 80 m² to 350 m².
  • Master Suite: A parlor or living room connected to one or more bedrooms.
  • Mini-suite: A single room with a bed and sitting area. Sometimes the sleeping area is in a
    bedroom separate from the parlor or living room.
  • Trunde: The room in which there is a smaller height bed under the main bedding which can be rolled inside out for additional guest.
  • Accessible Room / Disabled Room: This room type is mainly designed for disabled guests as it is required by law that hotels must provide a certain number of accessible rooms to avoid discrimination.
  • Cabana: This type of room is always adjoining to the swimming pool or have a private pool attached to the room.
  • Villa: It is a special form of accommodation which can be found in some resort hotels. It is a kind of stand-alone house which gives extra privacy and space to hotel guests.

There are Different Types of Bedding:

  • Top Sheet: The flat sheet is tucked in around the mattress over the fitted sheet with the
    fourth side, at the head of the bed, undone.
  • Bed skirt: A decorative piece used to cover the box spring and legs of the bed. It fits between the mattress and box spring and hangs to or almost to the floor.
  • Bedspread: A bed cover, often decorative, with sides that go to or near the floor. Protects
    bedding, including pillows, during daytime from dust or other contamination.
  • Coverlet: It is style of bedspread. It usually does not reach to the floor, and does not cover the pillows.
  • Blanket: A woven cloth covering used for warmth.
  • Comforter: A bed cover, used like a blanket, that is filled with padding and is not
    exceptionally fluffy.
  • Duvet: A soft flat bag traditionally filled with down or feathers, or a combination of both,
    or synthetic materials, and used like a blanket.
  • Continental pillow: It is a decorative pillow that sits back against the headboard.
  • Mattress Pad: This is used above the mattress and beneath a bottom sheet to add comfort.
  • Mattress Protector: This is used immediately above a mattress to protect the mattress.
  • Sleepy pillow: The medium-sized rectangular pillow that you lay one’s head on when sleeping. A sleeping pillow can come in many sizes such as standard (20″ × 26″), Queen (20″ × 30″), or King (20″ × 36″).
