How I Finally Qualified NTA UGC NET and JRF (TIPS)

This is the blog of me telling How I Qualified NTA UGC NET and JRF, but not in my first attempt. In my first attempt, I could not qualify NTA UGC NET/JRF as syllabus of my subject Tourism Administration and Management has become vast and changed so much. I faced lots of problems while facing.
If you have not read How I did previous preparation for NET and JRF, I recommend to read them before reading here:

STAGE 4:

I qualified the exam when result went out on 13th July 2019, but only NTA UGC NET not JRF. I was happy that I was eligible for Assistant professor though I needed to qualify JRF as well, for which UGC gives you regular funding for research purposes.

I got admission in Jamia Millia Islamia, Central University , New Delhi with my NET certificate as a Research Scholar. I was always focused on getting my Doctorate from Central University because:

  • It is universally accepted, acknowledged and supported by UGC
  • Its credibility is bigger than any IIMs or IITs.
  • A research scholar gets a small fellowship(approx INR 8000/- per month) even when they are not JRF from the university and varies form one place to another. This fellowship is not given by any other state universities or any deemed or private ones. Moreover, the fees of doing PhD is very minimal, I got my admission in INR 7000/- only in Jamia.
  • You will get credited guides who themselves have worked hard to earn the position of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors. The central universities professors carry high acknowledged career under their name with publications in many national and international journals.
  • Being a research scholar from a central university of India will earn you respect and identity wherever you visit in either seminar, workshops in academics. The status is highly respected.
  • You would start attracting attention of many acknowledged researchers and professionals in your field.

Since, I got admission in central university, now my focus again shifted towards qualifying JRF (Junior Research Fellowship). I discovered that conducting a good research and let it to be published in international journals, proper funding is required.

TIP List:

Tip 1: Try to get admission in a Central university and opt for a regular PhD as it is preferred while applying for job of Assistant Professor.

Tip 2: Focus on the area you want to do research on and learn the work done till date . You can read authentic works done of recent years regarding your subject interest through Google scholar, Academia.edu and many more

Tip 3: Be prepared actually to give something new to the society and this takes lots of effort and attention towards research.

  • I knew if I needed to do a good research, I have to choose a destination where my topic would be suitable and I would get my data as well. My Research area is Smart Destination Branding.
  • While continuing my coursework of the PhD which is done for 6 months and after qualifying it you get registered with your topic for PhD. I concentrated on the preparation for NTA NET/JRF again which was going to be held in1st week of December 2019.
  • As, I has already worked on paper-1, I focused this time towards paper 2 which is Tourism Administration and management-093. I had made many blunders in June exam in paper-2 due to lack of time and not reading questions properly. In one question which was Match the following, I chose the write answer in paper-2 but while marking, I marked OPTION B instead of OPTION C.
  • To avoid rushing off this time, I concentrated on the topics of paper-2 and found that if I do not know the answer, I will leave them off without any guess work. This will save my time to give some more time to read questions and options again of which I already was familiar.
  • I focused myself to read as much as I canĀ  of recent activities happened in tourism industry, new declarations, new policies etc. Knowing as much as I can of my subject was very essential to be confident to attempt another chance in the exam.
  • I have released my book which is heavily based on the notes I prepared during my preparation of the exam and have assembled them chapter wise according to the NTA Syllabus. This contains all the list of important facts in tourism plus all chapters will make your base strong on to facing major problems. In the book, I have also included, previous asked questions in Online mode that are related to the chapters.
  • In the end, 1 week before the exam, I took my published book-Ready Reckoner on Tourism and started reading it. It really helped me in revising all the concepts, models, policies and many things which may have slipped from my mind. Also, I keep practicing questions coming from paper 1 on daily basis for 3 hours and determined to increase my speed I solving them.

My timing strategy on Paper 1 and Paper 1 worked well and On 31st Dec 2019, the result got out in which I have cleared NTA NET as well as JRF securing second rank all over the country with percentile 58%.

IF I CAN,SO CAN YOU !!!
